The Client

Our client is a high-growth, private equity-backed healthcare roll-up based in Dallas, Texas. Focused on allergy and immunology, their mission is to create the premier national platform for allergy and immunology services—expanding access to care for the millions of Americans affected by asthma, allergies, and immune disorders.

Backed by a prominent PE sponsor and fueled by a growing network of partner practices, the company is rapidly scaling. With growth comes complexity—and the need for experienced finance talent to help ensure operational discipline.

The Challenge

As the company continued to grow its national footprint, leadership recognized the need for a seasoned Director of Accounting to bring structure, rigor, and expertise to the financial function.

This new hire would report directly to the Sr. Director of Finance and manage a team that included four staff accountants, a payroll manager, and a financial analyst.

Key responsibilities included:

  • Leading the month-end close and financial reporting processes
  • Managing full-cycle accounting operations and staff
  • Supporting multi-site consolidations and a global chart of accounts
  • Helping drive systematization as the company scaled
  • Acting as a key liaison across departments and contributing to budgeting and forecasting

The ideal candidate needed to be Dallas-based and experienced in a high-growth, multi-entity environment—ideally in healthcare.

Our Approach

We focused on experienced accounting leaders with multi-site exposure, strong reporting fundamentals, and a hands-on leadership style. Given the stage of the company, cultural fit was just as important as technical expertise—someone comfortable working in a fast-paced, often ambiguous environment with evolving processes.

Search priorities included:

  • Experience at the Controller or Accounting Director level
  • Prior work in healthcare, ambulatory services, or physician practice management (preferred)
  • A track record of success in high-growth environments
  • Familiarity with physician compensation models and clinical reporting nuances
  • CPA designation strongly preferred, but not mandatory
  • Local to the Dallas area

We also focused on candidates who could think strategically but weren’t afraid to get in the weeds—those who could lead today and scale for tomorrow.

The Placement

We placed a highly capable former Controller with a deep background in healthcare finance and operations. His experience included:

  • Leading accounting operations at a premier surgical specialty hospital
  • Prior work at one of the largest ambulatory surgery platforms in the country, where he oversaw monthly journal entries, financial reporting, physician practice analysis, annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and account reconciliations
  • Managing teams and full-cycle accounting responsibilities across multi-entity structures
  • Supporting acquisition-related integration efforts and providing financial clarity to executive leadership in fast-moving settings
  • Deep familiarity with the unique financial structures and compliance requirements of physician-based businesses

With strong analytical ability, leadership experience, and operational grounding, he was an ideal fit to help the company mature its finance infrastructure.

The Outcome

Since joining, the Director of Accounting has brought much-needed consistency and clarity to the financial close and reporting process. He’s helped establish scalable practices, supported the integration of new acquisitions, and become a valued thought partner to the Sr. Director of Finance.

By combining healthcare know-how with strong accounting leadership, he has helped the company balance its ambitious growth strategy with operational and financial discipline—positioning the platform for long-term success.
