The Challenge / Mandate

The client engaged us to recruit an FP&A Manager to join their growing team in the Raleigh area. This was a critical role designed to partner closely with business and operations leaders to drive outcomes and introduce analytical rigor to strategic decisions and investments. Reporting directly to the CFO, the FP&A Manager would also collaborate with Corporate FP&A to ensure that financial results were well understood and that budgets and forecasts remained accurate and up to date.

The successful candidate would need to navigate a highly acquisitive environment, helping to structure business plans, manage performance using discrete KPIs, and align functional initiatives with overall company priorities. This was an opportunity to make a significant impact on a ~$1B revenue business in a fast-paced, rapidly scaling environment.

Search Strategy

The search targeted candidates with strong FP&A backgrounds, particularly those who were comfortable operating in dynamic, growth-stage environments. While a consulting background was not required, candidates with such experience were considered favorably for their analytical rigor and stakeholder management skills.

The ideal profile included individuals with experience developing business cases, performing financial modeling and analysis, delivering executive presentations, and supporting performance management initiatives. Given the company’s ongoing growth and acquisition activity, adaptability, problem-solving, and strong communication skills were essential.

The Placement

The selected candidate was an operations-focused finance professional with a passion for leveraging data to drive change and a talent for using technology to automate routine processes. His expertise spanned business case development, financial modeling and analysis, executive-level presentations, and performance management.

Prior to this placement, he had successfully led initiatives that improved operational efficiency and financial visibility, with a strong focus on automating processes to reduce manual work. His collaborative approach and ability to bridge the gap between finance and operations made him an excellent fit for the role.

The Outcome

Since stepping into the FP&A Manager role, the candidate has had a significant impact on the business. He introduced new performance management frameworks that enabled leadership to make better, data-driven decisions. His work on financial modeling and KPI development provided clearer visibility into operational performance, helping the company navigate its continued expansion.

His ability to partner with regional and operational leaders led to improvements in forecasting accuracy and budgeting discipline. As a testament to his contributions and leadership, he was promoted to Region Director, further expanding his responsibilities within the organization and solidifying his role as a key driver of growth and operational excellence.
