The Challenge / Mandate

The client needed a skilled FP&A Consultant to support their finance team during a critical period of growth. This role required a candidate who could dive into financial modeling and reporting while helping to build scalable finance processes and infrastructure. The Interim FP&A Consultant would partner with commercial and revenue operations teams to develop robust forecasting models, streamline financial reporting, and provide actionable insights to executive leadership. Beyond technical proficiency, the ideal consultant would need the ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment, effectively communicate financial insights to non-finance stakeholders, and align finance strategy with the company’s ambitious growth trajectory. This assignment was designed as an interim-to-permanent role for the right candidate.

Search Strategy

We focused on identifying high-caliber finance professionals with strong backgrounds in FP&A, financial modeling, and SaaS business dynamics. Candidates with prior experience in investment banking or management consulting were prioritized for their ability to handle sophisticated financial analysis and thrive in fast-moving environments. While direct FP&A experience was preferred, the client was open to profiles that demonstrated advanced Excel skills, comfort with large data sets, and the ability to translate complex analyses into strategic insights for leadership teams.

The Placement

We placed a finance executive with over 10 years of experience scaling SaaS and middle-market companies. With deep expertise in FP&A, strategy, and M&A, he brought a proven track record of building reporting infrastructure, aligning cross-functional strategy, and delivering insights that drive organizational success. His background included work with companies up to $100M ARR, leading more than 25 financial diligence projects, and collaborating closely with commercial and revenue operations teams to optimize forecasting and reporting. Passionate about leveraging finance as a strategic growth driver, he was an ideal cultural and technical fit for the client’s dynamic environment.

The Outcome

The consultant made an immediate impact by strengthening financial planning processes and delivering high-quality models that improved visibility into the company’s performance. He built scalable reporting tools, partnered effectively with executives, and introduced forecasting processes that aligned strategic goals with operational execution. Impressed with his performance, the client converted him to a permanent Director role and later engaged us to source another FP&A consultant with a similar profile to support the company’s continued growth.
